New York Mayor Bill De Blasio has become a top supporter of Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. That’s why it came as very bad news for her on Monday morning when federal authorities made arrests which resulted from an investigation into de Blasio’s fundraising operation.
According to The Political Insider, law enforcement sources confirmed that four officers in the NYPD were arrested Monday morning as part of the sweeping federal corruption probe rocking the police department and Mayor de Blasio’s office. Deputy Chief Michael Harrington, Deputy Inspector James Grant, Sgt. David Villanueva and Richard Ochetal were each arrested at their homes by FBI agents at 6 a.m.
These arrests are the first time NYPD officers have been charged in the 2 ½ year probe, which is looking into the lavish gifts and vacations cops accepted in exchange for official services, such as security details and police escorts. Jeremy Reichberg, a close friend of de Blasio’s and a proprietor of a venture capital firm who is known for his strong NYPD connections, was also taken in. He has been accused of giving gifts to several officers in return for favors.
Each of the arrested men are facing up to 20 years in prison.
