A man has been arrested and charged with murder after he stabbed his ex-wife and two others in a supermarket in Maui, Hawaii.
Stephen Schmidt, 45, reportedly approached his estranged wife Kehau Farias Schmidt, 24, as she shopped with two men at a Foodlands grocery store at 6pm on Tuesday. According to Daily Mail, the argument escalated until Schmidt pulled out a knife and stabbed Kehau. When the other two men tried to save her, he stabbed them as well.
All three victims were rushed to Maui Memorial Hospital, but Kehau later succumbed to her wounds. Both the male victims are in stable condition and are still being treated.
Witness Alan Sevilla told the Maui News that he saw all three victims lying in a pool of blood between the cash registers.
“There was a lot of blood … a lot of blood,” Sevilla recounted.
After the attack, Schmidt tried to flee police, but he was quickly apprehended. He is now being held on $3 million bail.
