Fans all over the world are in mourning this week after it was revealed that John Berry, a founding member of the Beastie Boys, passed away on Thursday morning. He was 52 years-old.
According to Daily Mail, the legendary guitarist died at a hospice in Danvers, Massachusetts at 7:30 am. His father, John Berry III, confirmed the news, saying his son suffered from frontal lobe dementia. This type of dementia occurs when the frontal lobes of the brain begin to shrink, and Berry’s condition had rapidly deteroriated over the last few months.
Berry is not only a founding member of the Beastie Boys, but he is also credited with coming up with the group’s name. However, he left the group shortly after the release of their first seven-inch EP Polly Wog Stew.
Please keep Berry’s family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time!
