America was stunned on December 2 of last year when Muslim extremists launched a terrorist attack in San Bernardino, California that left 14 people dead.
On Thursday morning, the FBI shocked the nation once again by arresting three people in California for the attacks on charges that included federal conspiracy, marriage fraud and false statements.
According to the Los Angeles Times, one of the people who was arrested was the older brother of San Bernardino gunman Syed Rizwan Farook. The shooter’s brother has been identified as Syed Raheel Farook, and he was arrested on charges of marriage fraud conspiracy and lying to federal investigators. His charges center around the fraudulent marriage of Mariya Chernykh and Enrique Marquez, who has been charged with aiding in the deadly Dec. 2 attack.
The FBI conducted a search warrant of Raheel Farook’s home on Thursday morning, and Chernykh and Tatiana Farook were arrested at the residence after this was completed. Federal prosecutors revealed another search warrant was served at Chernykh’s home in Ontario.
Police believed Marquez received money to marry Chernykh, who took part in the wedding only in order to gain legal status in the U.S. Chernykh lied to the FBI when she was interviewed after the attacks by claiming she lived with Marquez, when she actually lived in Ontario.
