In Obama’s America, military veterans are disrespected and ignored on a daily basis. This anti-military mentality has left millions of veterans feeling unwanted and unappreciated.
After noticing this, a group of patriots decided to take action and launch an innovative initiative that aimed at showing veterans how loved they are.
Back in 2014, the United States Census Bureau calculated that America had 19.3 million military veterans. The number has likely risen since then. And many of these heroes struggle to transition back to civilian life after fighting in wars overseas.
While many people express their gratitude to veterans for their service to America, others aren’t sure how to say thanks. Now a new initiative can help and it makes it easy.
Walmart has sponsored the Greenlight A Vet initiative that helps citizens around the country show their gratitude for the veterans who fought for our freedoms.
To participate, simply switch a single visible light in your home – like your porch light – to a green bulb. Doing so shows your support for the men and women who fight for our country.
Similar initiatives exist for people to show their support for police.
“The simple action of changing one light to green is intended to spark a national conversation regarding the recognition of veterans,” the initiative’s website writes.
In the video below, you’ll meet Lourdes Gonzalez, a U.S. Army veteran who fought for America in Iraq.
Veterans like Gonzalez really appreciate the #GreenlightAVet movement.
“A lot of people don’t know how to say thank you, a lot of people don’t know how to show that they care,” she says. “So having something as simple and unique as a green lightbulb is amazing because it says, ‘I care. I may not know how to say it, but I care.’”
