As one of his final acts in office, Barack Hussein Obama has launched a plan to make suburbs less white and more poor.
Housing Secretary Julian Castro, who is also a top choice to become Hillary Clinton’s Vice President, is developing a plan for Obama that would hand out huge vouchers to help the urban poor move into suburbs that they determine are “too white” and “too wealthy.” According to The Federalist Papers, the plan is an overhaul of the Section 8 program, and it is set to be unveiled this Fall.
In preparation for the announcement of the plan, Castro has been taking down anyone who resists it. Last month, Castro issued a decree threatening to sue landlords who “discriminate” against convicted felons by refusing to give them homes. Back in 2015, his program “Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing” started pressuring suburban counties to change local zoning laws to permit low-income housing that accepts Section 8 vouchers.
The new program is called “Small-Area Fair Market Rents,” and it will set voucher rent limits by ZIP code rather than metro area, the current formula, which makes payments relatively small.
“We want to use our housing-choice vouchers to ensure that we don’t have a concentration of poverty and the aggregation of racial minorities in one part of town – the poor part of town,” Castro said.
Over 350,000 Section 8 vouchers will go out in the first wave, but the Obama administration ultimately wants 2.2 million vouchers disbursed.
