Over the last few summers, the Obamas have used their powerful influence to score their teenage daughter Malia some high profile internships in Hollywood. They appear to have scored her an even bigger gig this year, as it was just announced Malia will be interning at the US embassy in Madrid, Spain.
According to The Local, this came days after Obama announced his first visit to Spain as president, which will happen in July. The embassy has neither confirmed nor denied that Malia will be interning with them, but the news was reported by Spanish newspaper ABC.
It should come as no surprise that the US ambassador to Spain, James Costos, was a major donor to Obama’s reelection campaign in 2012. His partner, Michael S Smith, is an interior designer who is a close friend of Michelle’s. Smith was chosen by the first lady to redecorate the Obamas’ private rooms in the White House as well as the Oval Office.
Malia is graduating from high school this month and will turn 18 in July. She has been accepted to Harvard University, but will take a gap year next year before attending.
