Irish leader Enda Kenny visited Barack Obama at the White House on Tuesday, and what he said in front of the press left the president completely humiliated.
It all started when a reporter asked Kenny about his feelings on abortion rights. Before he could answer, a White House staffer interrupted and said, “Next question.” However, that didn’t stop Kenny from responding.
“We defer to the Eighth Amendment,” Kenny said, according to Conservative Tribune.
With this statement, the Irish leader was referring to the Eighth Amendment to the Irish Constitution, which was adopted in 1983. The amendment partly reads, “The state acknowledges the right to life of the unborn and, with due regard to the equal right to life of the mother, guarantees in its laws to respect, and, as far as practicable, by its laws to defend and vindicate that right.”
By slipping in the success of this amendment, Kenny was clearly defending the rights of the unborn, and was slamming an issue close to Obama’s heart. He was undoubtedly aware of the scandal surrounding Obama’s funding of Planned Parenthood last year after the organization was found to be selling body parts of aborted babies.
We applaud Kenny for taking a stand to Obama right to his face. SHARE this story if you support what he did!
