Earlier this week, we reported that South Carolina Nicki Haley was on Donald Trump’s Vice Presidential shortlist. This came as a surprise to many, given the fact that Haley has been critical of Trump in the past.
During an interview with Fox News on Thursday, Trump was asked whether he was considering Haley to be his running mate. His response was very blunt.
“No, not Nikki Haley. Nikki Haley, no. She wasn’t under consideration,” he said, according to Western Journalism.
Trump was then asked about conversations he’s had with Marco Rubio.
“We’ve had really nice conversations, not necessarily about that,” Trump said, adding that Rubio and him always had a good relationship even though it got “nasty” for a time.
“And then, we had the election,” Trump continued. “And you know, that was a tough period of time for Marco. Marco’s a good guy, a really nice guy, and I like him. But not necessarily with respect to any position. But it could happen.”
This came days after Haley spoke out to say she would not be Trump’s running mate.
“I have great respect for the will of the people, and as I have always said, I will support the Republican nominee for president,” she said. “While I am flattered to be mentioned and proud of what that says about the great things going on in South Carolina, my plate is full and I am not interested in serving as vice president.”
