In their latest attempt to take down the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, the New York Times published a story this past weekend entitled, “Crossing the Line: How Donald Trump Behaved With Women in Private.” The article takes a negative look at Trump’s alleged treatment of women, but a former girlfriend of the business mogul has spoken out today to slam the story as utter nonsense.
According to Western Journalism, the article began with a story from Rowanne Brewer Lane, who as a 26-year-old model was asked by Trump to put on a swimsuit at their first meeting at a Mar-a-Lago pool party. The Times made the story look like a negative experience, but Lane has since spoken out to reveal this wasn’t the case at all.
On Monday morning, Lane appeared on Fox & Friends to defend Trump and slam the Times.
“Actually, it was very upsetting. I was not happy to read it at all,” Lane said. “The New York Times told us several times that they would make sure that my story that I was telling came across. They promised several times that they would do it accurately.”
Lane went on to say that the Times inaccurately framed her quotes to have “a negative connotation on it.”
“They spun it to where it appeared negative. I did not have a negative experience with Donald Trump, and I don’t appreciate them making it look like that I was saying that it was a negative experience because it was not,” she said.
Lane revealed that she dated Trump for months after their first encounter, and said he always treated her well.
“He never made me feel like I was being demeaned in any way. He never offended me in any way. He was very gracious. I saw him around all types of people, all types of women. He was very kind, thoughtful, generous, you know. He was a gentleman,” Lane said.
She also said she never saw him mistreat women.
“Not that I’ve ever seen. Absolutely without a doubt, no,” she said.
Less than an hour after Lane’s interview, Trump took to Twitter to attack the Times for being “dishonest.”
The @nytimes is so dishonest. Their hit piece cover story on me yesterday was just blown up by Rowanne Brewer, who said it was a lie!
